somatic work
1:1 somatic work facilitates renewal and deepening of embodied experience through applied listening with and beyond the physical body. Guided breathing, gentle touch &/or movement, focused attention, and creative visualization join to regulate the nervous system, balance the subtle body, and facilitate deep rest. This work is followed by collaborative conversation and intuitive reflection, resulting customized tools for each client to work with beyond our session.
The format of somatic work varies in response to each individual. Typically, clients spend most of the session resting in a lying down position, and we may work with gentle shapes &/or light movement as well. Sessions may also be approached seated or entirely through movement, based on client preference.
Somatic work can assist clients in building pathways for physical, emotional, and mental self-regulation, establishing connection with the body and nervous system, developing personal somatic/attention practices, supporting life changes and transitions, nurturing boundaries and intentionality with others, deepening creative practice, and engaging with grief and death processes, among other outcomes.
